The Main Protagonist of Tekken 8. Uku was an aspiring martial artist and a practitioner of Saikuru Ryu Kūdō, trained by his parents, who were both students of traditional Kūdō, but invented a more unique form that nearly rivaled the Mishima Ryu fighting style. He also idolized the original King, even had the honor of taking a picture with him alongside his father who took to see a match, while also wanting to be a great fighter like him and Jinpachi Mishima. After Jin took over the Mishima Zaibatsu and started a war, a Tekken Force unit bombed his home town and killed his parents and his infant brother, leading Uku to developed a thirst for revenge towards Jin and the Zaibatsu. After the attack, he was approached by Kazuya Mishima, who later took the young fighter under his wing, who later trained him in the Advance set of Mishima Karate, but kept the Saikuru Ryu as his primary fighting style. Unlike Kazuya's relation with Heihachi and Jin, he expressed great respect for Uku and had named him his heir to G Corporation. Uku in turn viewed Kazuya as a father figure. He also formed a friendship Kazuya's lieutenants, Anna Williams (who often flirted with Uku, who in turn had a crush on her) and Bruce Irving (whom serve as a secondary mentor and father figure to him). He also later became friends with Julia Chang (who Uku also had a crush on, initially having no idea she was a spy for Violet Systems trying to expose G-Corporation) , who greatly empathized with Uku over the loss his parents and served as a voice of reason over his vendetta against Jin Kazama, while also trying to steer him away from Kazuya's influence over him. When he was transferred to Asuka's high school, he met up with her and became friends with her along with Max, Leo and Xiaoyu. In addition to being Asuka's friend, Uku harbored romantic feelings for her and would constantly butt in to break up her fights with Lili, much to her dismay and annoyance. He also made close friends with Miguel Rojas, who like Uku also had a desire for revenge against Jin. As a result Uku empathized with Miguel due to his sister being killed by the Mishima Zaibatsu, much like how Uku's parents died, leading the two to team up and find Jin. Despite his duel life in G-Corporation and his thirst for revenge, Uku is a devoted friend and an honorable fighter who often shows mercy towards his opponents and feels compassion even for his enemies (he even let Jin live, so he could face up to what's done). Eventually Julia Chang revealed G Corporation's shady experiments to Uku, causing him to feel conflicted between his need for revenge and his conscience, losing a lot respect for Kazuya over realizing G Corporation's dark secrets. This also led to Kazuya to betraying Uku. However during his time with Violet Systems, Uku began to feel greatly uneasy with working with Jin, still harboring his grudge due to him being the one who started the war in the first place and killing his family. This lead Uku to become disillusioned with even his own friends as they would place their bets on the very man who started this, leading Uku and Miguel to reluctantly betray the group and return to Kazuya's side by handing Jin over to G-Corp. Kazuya was impressed by his actions that he allowed Uku to return with open arms and even named him his heir to G-Corperation. Though over the coarse of the story, Uku's hatred of Jin begins to lessen as he starts to notice Jin's own realization over what he caused to Uku as well those outside the Mishimas, leading Uku to forgive Jin, while at the same time Uku realizing that he loved the friends he made over his journey more than his own desire for revenge against Jin, later completely abadoning his vendetta against him. He's later implied to have a connection to Ogre.

Trivia[]

  • Uku is the first main protagonist in the games who is not a Mishima. However, over the course of the story he began to slip into a more antagonist role due to seeking revenge against Jin Kazama, who he rightfully held responsible for starting the war, leading to develop a similar thirst for vengeance similar to Kazuya in his relations to Heihachi. Even after Kazuya's initial betrayal, Uku's hatred for Jin was still present, leading him to feel betrayed by everyone around him when they placed their bets on him to defeat Kazuya, while Uku never forgave Jin for being the one who started the war in this first place, in fact he even went as to say he'd rather live under Kazuya or Heihachi as they never brought the Mishima feud to the scale that Jin did. This naturally led the once compassionate and honorable Uku to became a more angry, bitter and disillusioned character who would do anything to hold Jin accountable for his crimes, even refusing to kill him, so he could make him suffer while calling out his self-riotous crusade as the world was put into turmoil due to Jin's hatred of the Mishima and the Devil Gene. Unfortunately, it also led to Uku to develop a ruthless and unforgiving streak as he later willing to kill Jun just to hurt Jin, thought he later began to regret that threat and it lead Uku to realize what that he was becoming no better than both Jin and Kazuya, leading him to feel remorse for going too far. However, he still blmaed Jin for his part in starting the war as well as Jun for trusting Heihachi to look over her son. However over the course of the story, Uku's hatred for Jin began to lessen as he realizes that how much he was turning away those close to him, leading him to realize that he cared more about them than his pursuit of revenge. This is furthered helped when he starts to see that Jin is genuinely owing up to his sins, leading to Uku to slowly abbadon his vendetta agains him and instead focus on being with his friend.
  • Ironically despite not being a Mishima and likely because of it, Kazuya treated Uku better than Jin, even planned to make him his heir and was genuine about giving G Corporation to him. However due to Uku's discovery of G Corporation's unethical experiment, Uku lost respect for him. Not only that Kazuya didn't hesitate to betray Uku and expressed disappointment in him due to Uku's sense of compassion. However some of Kazuya's attachment to Uku was genuine to a degree, even comparing him to Jun due to having a similar personality. He was also impressed with Uku's fighting style and that he was able to keep up with him, while giving Kazuya someone who is easy to train, with Uku only using the Mishima Ryu to enhance his punches and kicks to create even more devastating strikes, while learning trademark techniques like the Dragon Uppercut, Spinning Demon, the Stonehead while also neglecting the basics as Kazuya felt Uku doesn't need them and quickly moved on to the Advanced Set to complement Uku's already trained fighting style. Uku even created a variation of the Demon Scissors known as the Wing Clipper. This leads Uku to achieve an even more brutal style of Kūdō.
  • Uku and Kazuya's relationship somewhat mirrors Jin and Heihachi's relationship durring Tekken 3. Though while Heihachi shot Jin, Kazuya punched Uku in the chest and left him for dead as he begged Kazuya to help him. Yet despite this, his hatred of Jin overshadowed Kazuya's initial betrayal, in fact, Uku eventually return to Kazuya's side by handing Jin over to G-Corp as Uku refused to ally himself with the man who took everything from him and who started this war. Kazuya being impressed with Uku's loyalty, gave him and 2nd chance, in fact made him a key member of his inner circle.
  • Based on his interactions with Julia, Anna and Asuka, Uku often shows a tendency to easily fall for woman, due to a feeling of loneliness. Anna was greatly fond of Uku and would offten playfully flirt with him. For Uku's case, he didn't resist her advances, even enjoying the fact he had the attention of an attractive woman, yet both never pursued a relationship due to Anna being older than him, in addition Anna felt G-Corperation was no place for him, due to Kazuya's feud with his family and didn't want see Uku get hurt. He was also emotionally attracted by Julia's gentle nature, compassion, love of nature as well being supportive of him, but both consider each other just friends (though it's implied he does end up with her in the end). He was also attracted by Asuka's strong spirit, awkwardness and fighting style, while also finding her face beautiful, despite often disagreeing with her trying to break up fights and often getting hit by her, whenever he accidently touches her chest, much to his irradiation, leading them to fight each other. He dosen't show much interest in Xiaoyu on a romantic level (who's eyes are already set on Jin, who Uku ironically wants to get revenge against), but she did called him "cute", but considers him a friend. The only women he didn't take a liking to was Lili as he found her to be an annoying, spoiled and pampered rich girl who loves to hear herself talk (though he gets along well with Sebastian), while Lili finds him to be disrespectful "commoner", which Uku shrugs off and takes it as a compliant, saying "better than that than being annoying pampered princess fatting her self in her palace". He also greatly hates Nina Williams for being Jin's second in command during his time heading the Mishima Zaibatsu, the organization that killed his family.
  • His crush on Asuka is also ironic, considering she is also the cousin of his most hated enemy, Jin Kazama. Though ironically, it's implied he does end up with Julia, due to giving Uku emotional comfort and support, though they later parted mutually due to certian factors as well Uku's still lingering feelings for Asuka as well as Julia's desire to rebuild the environment, something Uku felt he would just get in the way of that. Uku does later end up Asuka by the end of story, due to finally learning to bury the hatchet with Jin and finally get the chance to rebuild his life with Uku and Asuka building a New Dojo in honor of his parents as well as his idol, the First King, training many in a new style that blends the Saikuru Ryu Style with the tradional Kazama Style Martial Arts along with elements of the style of Lucha Libre the King was always know for, even adopted the Black Jaguar Mask worn by the first Armor King as the offical Logo of the Dojo in honor of the 2nd King's former mentor.
